Born in the Presidio, San Francisco, to a lawyer and former teacher, Gabriel Cohen spent his entire childhood running and biking through the hills of Marin County. With boundless energy, Gabe brings a gentle strength to our children. Besides teaching in-class curriculum, Gabe also teaches movement education, landscape design and gardening, ecology and sustainability education, and woodworking design and construction.
Gabe has been a lead teacher for children in grades 1 through 4 and has instructed curriculum in every grade, from kindergarten through 12th grade. He has led his own gardening classes, as well as kindergarten through 8th grade in movement education. Gabe has been teaching for over 15 years.
A true educator, Gabe earned his bachelor’s degree in in Psychology with Emphasis on Child Development at the University of California at Santa Cruz. As an undergraduate his research about personalities and social personas was referenced in the American Journal of Psychology. In addition, he became a movement specialist as a trained and certified Spacial Dynamics instructor. Gabe also studied at the Rudolph Steiner College in Sacramento. Gabe spent two years as a stay-at-home dad while he completed the coursework for the California multiple subject teaching credential for kindergarten through eighth grade.
Gabe has made many contributions to our local Marin community. At Marin Academy, Gabe helped create a student-centered garden and participated in Marin Academy's first-ever Ecology Club. Additionally, for two years, he was an instructor for a mini-course about the biology of compost to all first-year high school students. Gabe is also a celebrated soccer and wrestling coach in Marin County.
Gabe lives in San Rafael with his wife, two sons, and their two very big dogs Duke and Tractor.
